Page Properties and SEO

The properties button is what you'll use to edit the overall properties about the page you're editing. This is everything from the name of the page, to the URL, to the metadata.
The first tab 'standard properties' is just the basics – the name of your page, which will appear after your website's name in your visitor's browser window when they visit the page.
If you'd like to launch this page to the public at a certain date and time, you can enter the date in here and the page won't be available to the public until then. Usually you'd just leave this set at its default.
Page Paths and Location
The Page Paths and Location tab is where you can customise the URL. The URL, is the area after your www domain address. For example, your about us page may be www.yourdomain.co.nz/about-us
Your full URL is displayed where it says 'canonical URL'. If your website isn't live yet, this will be in the format of yoursite.co.nz.123online.co.nz. Don't worry though – once your site goes live, your actual URL display.
You can also setup additional page URLs. For example, let's say you want yourdomain.co.nz/about to point to your actual URL, yourdomain.co.nz/about- us. You can enter '/about' in the additional page URL(s) section, and click Add Path. When a visitor goes to yourdomain.co.nz/about, they will then get redirected to /about-us.
This feature is particularly handy if you've upgraded your website, and your old website had different URLs for your pages. What happens in the background, is when you do this it adds what's called a '301 redirect'. Google uses these to keep track of old page URLs.
The SEO/Attributes section is used mainly for Search Engine Optimisation purposes, or SEO. Here, you can define the Meta Title, Meta Description, and Meta Keywords. These areas are called 'meta tags'. Meta Tags are basically invisible pieces of code that google and other search engines use to index your site. Google basically looks at your meta data, along with the keywords in your actual content, to determine what your web page is actually about.
This title should be your page name. This will also be the name that comes up when your page is listed in google. Try and include a couple of relevant key words to describe your page. Google looks at meta titles very carefully when indexing your pages.
Your meta description is the description that comes up in google to describe your page. It should be one or two sentences that describe your page. You'll want to keep this very keyword-heavy as well.
Your key word list should consist of ten to twelve key words, relevant to your industry. You know your business/organisation, so try and put yourself in your customers' shoes. What kind of words would they use to find you, or someone in your industry?
Google has a great tool to help you come up with related key words. Just do a google search for 'Google Keyword Tool', and type in a key word, and this page will tell you related key words, as well as the volume people use these keywords on their search engine.
You'd want to use your own knowledge, combined with what's revealed in google's keyword tool to form your list. Your key word list should consist mainly of industry-related key words, as well as two or three location key words (e.g. 'auckland' or 'sydney', etc).
Other SEO Tips
Keywords in your Content
Google pays a LOT of attention to the content you put on your pages. Simply go through the text of your website (particularly your homepage) and add the keywords into the body of the text.
Use Header Tags
Importantly, use your Header 1, Header 2, and Header 3 titles on every page. Make sure when you do, you include keywords in these titles. You can use these titles by simply highlighting text in your content, and selecting Header 1, Header 2, or Header 3 in the 'format' dropdown box.
Get Other Websites to Link to Yours
This is very important. The more credible websites that link to yours, the more 'popular' your website appears to google so the more likely it is to be highly ranked. Links from high ranking websites will yield you a better result. In particular, you want websites within your industry to link to yours.
Update your Website Often
Google rewards websites that are updated with relevant keyword rich content often, very very heavily, because they want to list the most up-to-date sites first. If you're serious about search engine optimisation, be sure to add new content regularly.
Get a blog
The best way of keeping your content fresh, is to put a blog on your homepage. If you haven't already, make sure you order a blog from the apps marketplace.

Finally, you can choose to exclude any page from your dropdown menu and page list by clicking 'exclude from nav'. You can also prevent your pages being indexed by search engines by clicking 'exclude from search index', and 'exclude from sitemap'.
What do the boxes
Exclude From Nav
If you have drop-down menu's set up with your site this tick-box will prevent the page from being displayed in your Nav (Nav is short for navigation which means your main menu).
Exclude From Page List
This will exclude the page from being shown in your page list blocks. A page list block is a type of block that automatically displays a list of pages beneath any given page or your entire website.
Exclude From Search Index
If you have a search integrated on your site, ticking this will prevent the page from displaying in the search results.
Exclude From sitemap.xml
The sitemap.xml is a special file that runs in the background of your site. It is used for search engines so they can get a general map of your pages. Ticking this box will exclude the page from your sitemap.xml file. Search engines may still find the page, but they won't see it when looking at this file which is essentially a map of your pages.
Make page not clickable on menu
This will stop the page from being clicked on if it is displayed in your main menu.
