Image Slideshow

If you'd like an image slideshow on your website, we can build you one for free. The image slideshow is a great way to showcase your work – it will display as many images as you'd like, with an transition effect between them.

You can update your photos by clicking on your slider in edit mode, and going into edit.

Check Orientation

The first thing you'll want to do is prepare your images. The first thing to note, is the orientation of your pictures. If you're like most of our clients, your image slider area will be in landscape. This means you'll need to make sure the images you add into the slider area are landscape as well. If you try and add a portrait image into a landscape space, it just doesn't work – it's like trying to fit a square in a round hole.

Check Size

So, you've got your images, and they're all landscape? The next thing to check is how big they are. Have a look at these numbers here. These numbers tell you how big your images need to be. If your images are smaller than these numbers, then that doesn't work either. For example, if your image is smaller than the image area in your slider, the system will create white space on the left and right of your image. If it went all the way to the edges, your image would stretch and pixellate, so we don't do that.

Don't worry if your images are bigger than these numbers – the app will automatically resize and crop your images, and if you wish, you can edit the image online create your own crop and edit it. We can make your images smaller, but just not bigger, otherwise image quality starts becoming an issue.

You can easily tell how many pixels your images are. For example, in Windows, just find the image on your computer, and click on it. Below, it will display the image's dimensions. The first number is the width, and the second number is height, both in pixels. If your image is too small, find another image, or contact the people who supplied your image and ask for a bigger one.

Upload and Create a Set

The next step is to upload your images. This is easy. You'll Just click on 'create / edit set'. A set is simply a group of images. In this case, is the set of images that will show up on your image slider. Clicking 'create/edit set' will bring up your file manager. Here, you just follow the prompts and upload. If you want to upload multiple files you can – just click on 'upload multiple', add files, find the files on your computer, and click 'start uploads'.

The next step is simply to tick the images that you want in your set, and then select from the dropdown box 'sets'. Here, you'll want to add a new set. You can call it whatever you like – let's call ours 'slider images'. Once you're done, click close on the file manager. Select the set you've just created from the dropdown menu, and your images will appear in the app.

Of course, you can go back and add images to your sets any time you like. Just go back into 'create / edit set' again, repeat the upload steps, tick what you want to add, select sets, and tick the box next to the set you want to add your images to.

Add Captions, Links and Customize

So you've uploaded your images and created a set. Your images are now appearing in the image slider app. It's all pretty straight forward. If you want to give your image a caption, put it in the caption box. If you want to link your image to another of your website's pages, do that here. You can also select your animation effect – most people leave this as a 'simple fade', but you can customise this if you wish by selecting another animation from the dropdown box.

If you click on 'global options', you can choose from two different arrow styles, adjust the speed of the transitions, randomise the order, choose to show arrows or not, choose to show navigation buttons, or even thumbnails.

If you'd like to customise how your captions look, just click on the captions section, and customise the font, size, and colour.

The best way to experiment with what features you like and what you don't is simply to make the selection, and try it out. Keep in mind, you won't be able to see your animations when you're in edit mode, so you'll need to exit edit mode in order to check.

Adjust Images

If the images that you uploaded were any bigger than the space set on your slider, the system will have resized the images, and chances are they've been cropped as well. This automatic resize and crop suits most people – however, if you'd prefer a different crop on any of your images you can set this manually by adjusting the image itself.

It's easy – first, you'll want to write down the dimensions of your image slider area. You can get these numbers within the app, here.

Next, you'll want to edit the image. Simply go to your dashboard, and click file manager. Find the image you want to edit, click on it, and select 'edit'. This will bring up PicMonkey, which you can use to edit the image itself. To find the perfect crop that's right for your image, you'll first probably want to resize it by clicking 'resize' and entering in your exact width in the first box. Keep the 'keep proportions box' selected and click 'apply'. Next, select crop. Enter in the exact dimensions of your slider in these boxes. Next, simply drag the crop to where you'd like it to appear, and click apply.

Of course, if you'd like to add your own graphics, or even your own graphical captions, you can do so right from within PicMonkey. If you'd like a full to tutorial on PicMonkey, simply click on the tutorial link on the top right.

When you're done editing your image, click save. When you check back on your image slideshow, your image will be perfectly cropped and edited to your liking.
